It's an amazing huge museum. Have a very nice breakfast, wear a very comfortable shoes and be there early as it will take the whole day without even finishing it all. You will have history from all ages. Painting from all ages. Many exhibits and classes to learn new things. If you live in NY a membership would be a great value but if you can't afford it they would not mind you pay $2 at the entrance or get in free as they have time for free. The museum has a few gardens and an amazing rooftop where you can enjoy the view over Central Park and fifth Ave. It's a must if you are visiting New York as it is a mind blowing and a very powerful experience.

A museum which resides within four city blocks , it is huge in every single mean of the word. Have a nice breakfast wear something really really comfy and be prepared to depend the whole day in. I saw things from different eras which I had no idea about and/or did not imagine to see it there. Do not miss the Egyptian and the European wing also the old Greek Roman history hall. It's amazing I do recommend this place to be visited even if your are just passing by NYC and you do only have 2 days in the city.

The Met used to honor its opening hours. Not any more. The employees used to know something about the museum. Now that is more of an exception than the rule. Walls are repainted the ugliest way imaginable. Great masterpieces get moved around for no reason "so that they do not become stale and boring", in the words of one of the guides. The curators seem to see no difference between a museum and a department store. What a dramatic decline!

Be sure to schedule at least a couple hours if you plan on just laying eyes on every exhibit. If you would like to spend a bit more time studying the appearance and history of each piece, be ready to put away even more time. There are multiple dining opportunities in the Met if you stay too long and get hungry, but there are also hot dog and falafel vendors right outside the front doors. Admission is also by donation. My favorite exhibit showcased the Arms and Armor of various civilizations.
