The staff was super nice and the hotel is pretty cool. They have a room called The Velvet room or something like that that was a lot of fun. The room itself was just okay. The bed was comfortable but the shower tub situation sucks it's totally old school and for a place of this caliber you would expect to have had a remodel. There are no lights in the closet so it's hard to see your clothes. Not a lot of outlets to plug your stuff in. It's just didn't feel like they were that interested in making sure we were comfortable from a room standpoint once again the staff was amazing and they were all super nice and tell you about the hotel itself

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The bed was comfortable, the sheets were clean, and I slept great. There was plenty of water pressure in the shower, though I did find that the water fluctuated a bit between hot and cold water. I am not a fan of their "facility fee" that charges extra for Internet access, phone calls, and morning coffee. This place has an awesome huge gas fireplace in the lobby that is a great place to relax on a cold winter night.

Great location! Hotel is just a couple of blocks from Union Square. Food and drinks at the Restaurant and Bar are fantastic. Decoration is unique. Staff is terrific, specially Heather Schneider. If you are looking for a place close to everything in San Francisco, the Clift is your best option.

Room rates are very reasonable for downtown San Francisco. During a recent stay I had a request for the concierge and they were very gracious and accommodating. In many ways it's the same Clift it was ten years ago—it's time to replace some of the carpeting. The displays in the Redwood Room are intriguing. It's the same technology playing the same program of Klimt transitions, but it works well and has really become part of the space, rather than a standout digital distraction.

Extremely dim lighting throughout entire building: hallways, rooms, lobby, conference rooms. This was a major con for me hosting a conference here. Rooms are small, especially the bathrooms. If you're not careful, a sneeze on the toilet will result with your face bashing into the doorknob. The faucet of my tub kept leaking a small stream of water. However, service is incredible. The staff are extremely helpful and they anticipate your every need. I never had to ask or remind staff to bring more water for the guests during the conference, they check in regularly to see if you need anything. The food is incredible too. One of the best I've ever had at any hotel conference.
