Nice view and near the river

What a lovely, and interesting, unknown site. When I say "unknown" I mean that it's missing from guide books. This means it can be busy with locals. Great views over North Seattle, there's always lots of traffic out on the water. Because of the small steep hill built into the park, it's good for kite flying. There's a decent flat area for walking and playing. But what makes the park so different are the actual preserved gas works within its boundaries. Unique.

This is an excellent view of the city and a great place to picnic or fly kites in the summer. It can get windy so you may want to bring a vest just in case. Very pet friendly here as well. There are a lot of very interesting old boilers and machines that are perfect for photo ops, but be careful when entering the covered area where the colorfully painted tubes and tanks are housed; people live in there. If you want to preview this from the water, you can take the Ride the Ducks tour from the space needle or rent a boat from Hot Tub Boat Rentals.

It used to be an oil refinery and the city did a great job of making new friends but keeping the old. Lake union has changed much over the years so it’s no longer poisonous to swim here but I still would not. Just enjoy this great park from the land. Clint the hill in any day but July 4 then come back July 4 and remember what it was like to climb then. Lots and lots of picnic spots any day of the week—except July 4. 😁

This is an ideal location to get out of the car and stretch your legs and take a short but beautiful walk through the now defunct Gas Works (see the great rusted pipe gas works which now looks like art sculptures) climb a short grassy knoll and see Seattle in the distance as it glimmers from the backdrop of beautiful lake Union. Dogs are OK, bring the leach and the pickup bag. Great place for a picnic lunch too. The crowd on top of the hill is usually thick with people taking photos and group pictures. Worth the trip. Parking is free. Great for dates, couples, families, solo runs or walks, etc. Also a great bike ride if you don't mind the steep hill assent.
