This museum is worth the visit, because it gives you a good insight into the past. It is an open air museum so I recommend that you pick a sunny day to go. Many of the houses that are on site come from Reykjavik center and have been renovated. The staff usually wear Icelandic national costumes which is really nice. They have a coffee shop that sells traditional Icelandic food, like waffles and pancakes.

A beautiful open air museum that gives you a good idea of what living in Iceland was throughout the years. Very friendly staff that wears period appropriate cloathing.

Similar to Skansen in Stockholm, and just as good. Of course it is not as large.

Andrew Traversone

A cool look at early 20th century Nordic living

A great place to get to know the history of Iceland and Reykjavík in action. Look at and step into real old houses from various times, chat with staff dressed in traditional clothing and even partake in traditional jobs! A little bit out of the way but totally worth the trip. I recommend going in good weather as this is partly an outdoor museum.
