Bring water! Hiking in the desert can be an inspiring experience. Days in the the Escalante wilderness will open your eyes to wonderful slot canyons and large plateaus. After spending three days in the wilderness here, I realized how sparse water can be. Make sure you plan ahead and either bring water, or plan to be near a few streams (hopefully one hasn't dried up!) I would also say its pretty barren here, which also means not large crowds. Great place to get away from the world and explore!

We were here on Dec 20, 2016. Zero crowds. Spectacular scenery. Worth the trip. Wish I knew how to post pics.

We got 'off the beaten path' in this great, beautiful stretch of land. We we just parked the car near a trail head and wandered eventually ending up in a great slot canyon. my advice is to do the major 'attractions' such as the Grand Staircase but save a few days to do side hikes. The ladies at the visitor center nearby helped us out with ideas for hikes and we also read about a few of them online. The scenery does not disappoint. We went in the fall and basically had the place to ourselves.

A fantastic area to see Utah's amazing sandstone canyons without the crowds of a national park. I would highly recommend hiking to the golden cathedral in neon Canyon.
