We departed via the Melbourne Airport for an international flight. The airport checkin is quite smooth and the staff are professional. However after the customs clearance, the whole departure area was in a mess as it was still under renovation. When we entered the departure lounge (gate 3) it was a small area and it was got really crowded as more and more people squeezed into the lounge while waiting for the gates to open. Passengers do not feel happy at all at this airport. Despite the mess, ground staff was still professional and polite to the frustrated passengers. Customs officers were indifferent when we were going through the customs. A smile can go a long way, I guess they do not practice that at this airport. Note to visitors: as the airport is undergoing renovation, the toilets are located very far from the gates at the shopping area, and there isn’t any visible drinking water fountain for visitors. The reason why the airport has a 2 stars rating is because of the patience shown by the ground staff. I would have given it one star based on the harrowing experience at the airport alone.

Worst international airport in Australia. Lack of amenities, walked 200 meters to find a bathroom, and only two spots in there. Need to queue up for 10-15mins at least. Low ceiling at almost everywhere in the airport which creates lots of tension and pressure to the travelers. My recommendation for those who are traveling to Australia from overseas, seriously please consider arrive and departure from Brisbane, way easier and 100 times more comfy!!

Careless customer service for parking Parked valet in here and got very little information on arrival if we were in the right area. Eventually told we were. Charged twice on the way out. Raised next day by calling and made to go through online form submissions and forms for their own error. No refund yet week and half later and no care from customer service team to resolve. Very simple to fix what they have double charged for

Lack of facilities, shopping options, resting area, information signage, change of gate information, security/custom/immigration arrangement, entertainment area, and etc. Try to learn from other good airports, and they don't charge for a lots of things. And some of the toilets are quite dirty. It just a small tiny airport compare with lots others, should be able to do much better. The people who think it's a 4/5 star airport, you haven't been to any good airport before. Yes, it's better then some of the airports if you want to compare with the bad one. But we are not a 3rd world poor country. And we been charged more for everything.

Would give 0 stars if I could. Have lived in Melbourne all my life and dread going to this airport, it really is the worst part of going on holidays. Anyway, recently I was at the airport picking up relatives. We parked in short term parking. Our relatives arrived and their baggage carousel broke down which took over 1 hour to fix. It took over 2 hours for our relatives to get out of the airport from the time they disembarked their plane. I also ended up paying $29 for parking. I wrote a complaint to Melbourne airport about the whole experience and got this reply: "As the airlines and car park are not affiliated the charges must apply" Bloody horrible airport.
